Come when called

Can save your cat's life. Literally.

Come when called

A cat that comes when called is a cat you can recover if he escapes, if there's a fire or if you need to bring him in at night. Not optional: it's survival.

Ce que vous obtenez

  • Reduces escape risk
  • Essential for homes with balcony or garden
  • Strengthens daily bond

It's the cue that saves the most feline lives, no question.

Avant de commencer

  • · Knows his name

Matériel

  • · Premium treat reserved ONLY for this (shrimp, chicken)
  • · Spoon with tuna paste (distinctive sound)

Étape par étape

  1. 1

    Build the magic word

Pick a unique word (e.g. "pispi" or a short whistle). Say it and immediately give the best treat. Repeat 20 times. It now means "guaranteed party".

  2. 2

    Call from short distance

From 2 m, say the word once. If he comes: full party. If not: don't repeat, walk closer and try from nearer.

  3. 3

    Increase distance and distractions

From room to room, then with the TV on, then with another cat present. Only level up when the previous one is 9/10.

  4. 4

    Maintain it for life

Call your cat 1-2 times a day always with a great treat. If you stop practicing for a month, recall weakens.

Erreurs fréquentes

  • Calling for something unpleasant (medication, nail trim)
  • Repeating the word if he doesn't respond
  • Rewarding with affection instead of food during the first weeks

Si quelque chose ne fonctionne pas

Comes halfway and leaves

Walk the last steps yourself and reward him where he is. Goal: reaching you always pays off.

Conseils de pro

  • Always use the same spoon with paste to create a magic auditory cue.
  • Call mid-play, not at the end: so it doesn't mean "fun's over".

Pour aller plus loin

Recall is the most important skill in any pet cat, especially in homes with balconies, terraces or gardens. Unlike dogs, cats respond out of self-interest, not blind obedience: consistency of the premium treat is what sustains this cue for life.
